How To Plant Your
Lotus Seeds
1.
Nick
or File outer
shell till you just begin to see white underneath.
2.
Place
in a large container of warm water. Keep warm (NOT hot) until the seeds
sprout. They can be placed in a sunny window or other warm location. (We sprout them in large open bowls in
the greenhouse when nights are warm).
This takes about ONE week.
3.
Gently
transplant sprouted seeds into a pot (we use a gallon aquatic pot) with heavy
soil out of your garden, aquatic soil which is baked clay, or a good top
soil.
4.
Place
the seeds a few inches below the soil.
5.
Immerse
into shallow water, leaving four inches of water above the soil until the
first pads reach the surface of the water. The first pads will always
float on top of the water.
6.
After
two weeks fertilize with a fertilizer pellet (these are sold at our
nursery in the water-garden section.
7.
Re-fertilize
every thirty days until plant goes dormant in September.
8.
The
plant should be hardy as long as you keep it covered with water.
9.
You
should have one or two blooming lotus next year!
10.
Note:
You don’t need a pond for lotus. They are great hardy container plants
for patio, yard garden, or whatever BUT, they like sun.
Good Luck and GOD BLESS!
